Maria Gunnoe can no longer stand on top of the mountain above her West Virginia home where she learned at a very young age to live off the land. Now because mountaintop removal coal mining, that mountain is a 1,200-acre mine that has destroyed the forest and polluted the water. Maria is a leading opponent of this form of mining and speaks out for her family and neighbors and fights back against the coal mining companies.
